As an adult who relies on the use of retainers because of having orthodontia work as a teen, Johnson Orthodontics was very helpful and easy to get into when in a pinch and needing a replacement Invisalign. Why do I need to wear a retainer?
After your orthodontic treatment ends, your gums and jawbone need a little time to adjust to the new position of your teeth. Wearing your retainer as recommended keeps your bite from shifting back to its old position, and retains all your hard work.
How long do I have to wear a retainer?
Everyone is a bit different. At first, you'll likely wear it throughout the day and night. Eventually, Dr. Johnson or Dr. Seaberg will let you know when it's safe to switch to just wearing it while you sleep.
Is a permanent retainer hard to clean?
Not at all. It just takes a little practice. We'll happily show you the easiest ways to brush and floss around your fixed wire during your visit. You'll feel confident keeping your smile healthy and clean in no time.
